Filippo Inzaghi has successfully battled back from injury to take his place in the 23-man Azzurri squad and, while he is not the most popular player in Italy, his career record of 166 Serie A goals speaks for itself.
His breakthrough season came in 1996-7 when he fired in 24 Serie A goals - still his best tally - for unfashionable Atalanta.
That effort earned him a move to Juventus the following summer but 'SuperPippo' was left hurt three years later when he was moved on to AC Milan as David Trezeguet kept him on the sidelines.
However, he had sweet revenge in 2002/03 when he contributed 12 goals to Milan's successful Champions League campaign, the Rossoneri beating Juve in an all-Italian final at Old Trafford.
Blessed with a good brain, Inzaghi makes excellent runs off the ball (although he is prone to being caught offside), creating space for himself and others.
The 33-year-old is not the biggest of men but he more than makes up for his lack of power with excellent touch and awareness round the box.
