Massimo Oddo has fought his way into the Italy squad with some rampaging form for Lazio after spending much of his early career in obscurity.

After spells at outposts like Fiorenzuola, Monza, Prato and Lecco, Oddo finally made his Serie A debut in 2000 for Verona at the age of 24.

Two years later he moved to Lazio at the time when the previously cash-rich club was beginning to crumble under debts, but his form has been one of the key factors in the rejuvenation that saw them finish sixth in the top flight this season.

Oddo's determined performances on the right flank have made him a firm favourite with the Lazio faithful and he complements his defensive play (which means he has been fielded at right-back as well as on the right of midfield) with no shortage of attacking verve.
