Marco Amelia's fantastic performances for Livorno in the past few seasons have seen the former Under-21 international promoted to the senior side.

Now 24, Amelia was a member of Italy's 2004 Olympic bronze medal squad and made his debut for the national team in November 2005 in the 1-1 friendly draw against the Ivory Coast.

Amelia is considered to be Gianluigi Buffon's long-term successor and is likely to move on to pastures new after the World Cup, with Real Madrid and Chelsea having reportedly shown an interest in the past.
