Fourth in line for one of two berths at centre-back this summer, Juanito would not let anyone down if national coach Luis Aragones had to turn to him.

An experienced stopper, Juanito has all the usual qualities of a central defender, being hard in the tackle and strong in the air.

Only a lack of pace has stopped him from playing more internationals, particularly now Carles Puyol and Pablo Ibanez have formed an excellent understanding in the central of Aragones' defence.

A debutant for Spain back in 2002, Juanito is a product of the Real Betis youth system but had to join Cadiz to make his debut at first-team level.

A spell at Recreativo Huelva followed before he returned to Betis when Real exercised their right to re-sign him, and he is an integral part of their squad.
