Alou Diarra spent three years on the books of Liverpool, but you would do well to find a supporter who saw him pull on the famous red shirt.
Having been recruited in the summer of 2002 by then-manager Gerard Houllier, Diarra played just 45 minutes out of position in the centre of defence in a pre-season friendly against Le Havre and was never seen in Liverpool colours again.
He was packed off on loan for three successive seasons - to Bastia, Le Havre and then Lens - before his unimpressive Anfield career ended with a permanent move to Lens last summer.
A tough-tackling defensive midfielder by trade, the 24-year-old has found something approaching his best form since returning to his homeland and was rewarded with his World Cup call despite having managed just 184 minutes' playing time in four appearances during qualifying.
