Perhaps the revelation of the English Premiership season, Pascal Chimbonda is one of two uncapped players in the 23-man France squad.
Plucked from the relative obscurity of Bastia for a bargain £350,000 last summer, Chimbonda now commands a transfer fee of £6million.
That came to light after the defender blotted his copybook by handing in a transfer request after the last game of Wigan's season - and Tottenham were quick to test the Latics' resolve with a £3million bid before May was out.
Strong and quick, the 27-year-old was rewarded for a phenomenal debut season in England with first a place in the Team of the Year picked by his fellow professionals in the PFA and then his first international call-up.
Born in Guadeloupe, Chimbonda began his career at Le Havre and spent four years there before joining Bastia three years ago.
