One of the biggest flops in the 14-year history of the English Premiership, Bosko Balaban's £6million move to Aston Villa yielded no goals in a 28-month stay that only saw him pull on the famous claret and blue eight times.
Having moved to Villa Park from Dinamo Zagreb in August 2001, a 25-year-old Balaban was finally released as Villa cut their losses in December 2003.
He now plays for Club Brugge, where his form is something approaching that which saw him score 14 goals in 25 games for Dinamo to attract Villa.
Prior to that he had rattled in six goals in his first seven full internationals (including a hat-trick in a World Cup 2002 qualifier against Latvia) but it was no surprise to see his confidence suffer thereafter, indeed when qualifying ended he had managed just two more goals in 17 matches.
Once courted by Real Madrid and Barcelona, Balaban has a direct style and if he can regain some of his self-belief he provides real competition for places.
