Position: Defender
Born: 21.03.84
Club: Glasgow Rangers

Karl Svensson was named in Sweden's World Cup squad despite having just one cap to his name at the time.

Something of a surprise call-up, Svensson was included after catching the eye for IFK Gothenburg in the opening weeks of the Allsvenskan season.

This impressive form also sparked the attention of Glasgow Rangers who then signed the defender for an undisclosed fee in May.

Not even on the radar during the qualifying campaign, the 22-year-old started his pro career with Jonkopings Sodra IF before joining IFK in 2003.

A strong and committed performer, Svensson is certain to start - and probably even end - the tournament on the bench but it is a measure of his ability and temperament that he has already captained his club despite his young age. His future looks bright.
