Patrick Muller is the organiser of the Swizerland defence but what he lacks in strength he makes up with flair and intelligence.
Blessed with pace and skill on the ball, Muller can also play has a holding midfielder but he will partner the physical Phillippe Senderos at the heart of the solid Swiss back-line in Germany.
Muller has been a firm fixture in the side since his debut in 1998 and by the time the World Cup finishes he will have over 70 caps.
He rose to prominence when he joined Lyon at the turn of the millennium and subsequently won a hat-trick of Ligue 1 titles between 2001 and 2004.
In January 2005, following a brief stint at Mallorca, Muller joined Basle who he helped win the Swiss Super League. However his spell there lasted exactly one year as Lyon regained his services because of an injury crisis.
The 29-year-old might look a bit lightweight for a defender but his great technical ability and reading of the game is second to very few.
