Diego Gavilan was the first Paraguayan to play in England after Newcastle spent £2 million to acquire his services in 2000.
He was only 19 then and despite showing glimpses of his skills and promise, he was unable to hold down a regular place and was subsequently farmed out on loan to Mexican side Guadalajara in 2002.
Nevertheless he has experience from the 2002 World Cup in Japan and Korea and continues to be an integral member of the Paraguay national side, playing in 12 qualifying games and scoring once.
After a stint with Italy's Udinese, the quick, attack-minded utility player now plays for Brazilian side Internacional and may even seek a move back to Europe after the summer.
Nicknamed 'Pampero', Gavilan is seen as the horse that runs like the wind - due to his energetic and relentless work ethic.
