Edgar Barreto is a talented midfielder and is one of very few Paraguayans playing his football in Europe.

The 21-year-old signed for Dutch side NEC Nijmegen in 2004 from Cerro Poreno and is considered a big prospect for both club and country.

He first came to international prominence when he captained Paraguay to the final of the Olympic Games tournament in 2004, where they lost to Argentina.

Barreto is technically gifted and has the ability to create chances for his strikers, along with possessing a powerful shot from distance.
