Position: Defender
Born: 09.03.78
Club: Blackburn

Lucas Neill has built a reputation in English football as a tough-tackling defender, as five red cards during his five years at Blackburn show.

Neill has spent almost a decade in England, playing more than 150 games for Millwall before moving to Premiership side Blackburn in 2001

He has firmly established himself as first-choice right-back at Ewood Park, playing a crucial role as Rovers secured a top-six finish and with it UEFA Cup football.

He hit the headlines for the wrong reasons in September 2003 when he was sent off for a challenge on Jamie Carragher which broke the Liverpool defender's leg.

Neill has nevertheless been a regular for Australia, curbing his combative nature and developing a good understanding with winger Brett Emerton for club and country.

Neill has demonstrated his versatility under Guus Hiddink, playing well in the centre of a three-man defence as well as his more customary role on the right of a back four.
