One of the eight Americans in history to have won over 100 international caps, Claudio Reyna has been a mainstay of the US set-up since making his debut over a decade ago.

The Manchester City midfielder will play in his third World Cup finals this summer and has also appeared at two Olympics.

Reyna made his international debut against Norway in January 1994 and quickly caught the eye of coaches and pundits alike with his smooth passing and quick feet.

After starring in the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, he was selected for the 1994 US World Cup squad, but did not feature in his homeland because of a hamstring injury.

He soon made up for lost time, playing as an 'over-age' player in the 1996 Olympics and then having an important role in ensuring the US qualified for the 1998 World Cup.

Having missed out in 1994, Renya was determined not to miss out in 1998 and was one of only three US players to play every minute of their games in the tournament.

Reyna's leadership ability was soon noted by coaches, who made him captain for the first time in 1999, and he looks likely to don the armband in Germany this summer.

His three-year spell at Manchester City has been plagued by injuries - including a long-term groin problem - and only in recent months have the club seen the best of a talented midfielder whose presence has a calming effect.
