Munich has splashed out a massive 280 million (Euro) on the shiny new Allianz-Arena Stadium for the World Cup 2006.
The World Cup stadium is home to the reds and blues - TSV 1860 Munich - and Germany's top club, FC Bayern Munich, which has 19 German championships and 12 cup wins to its name.
The World Cup stadium lies to the north of Munich, a two-minute walk from the Fröttmaning underground station.
Get there from the Main Station
From the Hauptbahnhof (main station) take S-Bahn train S8 towards
Marienplatz, then change onto U-Bahn line U6 towards Garching-Hochbrück
and get off at Fröttmaning. The journey takes 15 minutes.
Get there from the Airport
North of the centre, Munich's Franz-Josef Strauss Airport is a major hub for international flights. From here, take S-Bahn S8 towards Geltendorf and get off at Marienplatz. Change onto U-Bahn line U6 to Fröttmaning. The journey takes about an hour.
Shuttle buses to the city centre depart every 20 minutes from terminal 2. Taxis charge around 55 (Euro) for the 40-minute trip to the stadium or centre.
