Between matches, visit Gelsenkirchen's key sights, like the eco-friendly Solar
Factory, Nordstern park or the cutting-edge Musiktheater im Revier arts centre. Special
events for the FIFA World Cup include the Fan Fest, with live music, shows and
exhibitions. You'll need a ticket 15-22 (Euro) for the big concerts, such
as Simple Minds (8 June), Status Quo (28 June), Gypsy Kings (29 June) and Bryan Adams (7 July).
Feel The Power: Solar Factory
This futuristic factory (Am Dahlbusch) is one of Europe's biggest solar power plants. The impressive steel and glass structure has switched the city's focus from coal-mining to solar energy over recent years.
King of the Castle: Schloss Berge
Chill out in the extensive grounds of this moated castle (Adenauer Allee 103), a 10-minute walk from the stadium. With lakeside gardens and boat hire, it's the perfect place to spend a lazy afternoon.
Great Gardens: Nordstern Park
Gelsenkirchen's landscaped park (Am Bugapark) is on the site of a former colliery and has an amphitheatre, a climbing wall, beach volleyball and barbecue areas. Relax in the beer garden, or take a boat along the Rhine-Herne canal.
