The World Cup has now reached the end of its fourth week. Here we look at some of the tournament's magic moments over the past seven days.
ZIDANE RENAISSANCE
France great Zinedine Zidane, due to retire at the end of the World Cup, looked off the pace in the opening two games and seemed well past his best. He was suspended for the crucial final group game against Togo but then suddenly started to play as the knockout stages got under way. He was outstanding against Spain and then continued his resurgence with another fine display against Brazil, crossing for Thierry Henry's winner.
ITALY LEAVE IT LATE
With a dreadful penalty shootout record, Italian fans began to fear the worst as their semi-final with spot-kick kings Germany neared the end of extra time but two dramatic late goals suddenly changed the picture. Fabio Grosso curled in a stunner to all but send Italy into the final and then Alessandro Del Piero made sure in injury time.
LEHMANN HEROICS
There had been a much happier ending for Germany in the previous round as Jens Lehmann made the penalty saves that sent them through. The Arsenal keeper had done his homework on all the likely Argentina penalty-takers and saved from Roberto Ayala and Esteban Cambiasso. The host nation rejoiced.
TONI HITS THE MARK
After coming into the tournament as a hot tip for the golden boot, Italy's Luca Toni had been out of luck in front of goal. He changed all that with two second-half goals against Ukraine in Hamburg that sent his side through to the semi-finals with a 3-0 win.
RICARDO'S SUPER SAVES
England fans obviously see it differently, but Portugal goalkeeper Ricardo was superb in the quarter-final penalty shootout victory in Gelsenkirchen. He kept out efforts from Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher to send Portugal into the last four.
